iPod Touch

August 2nd, 2008

So last week I splurged on an iPod Touch.  I know what everyone is saying: “why not get an iPhone, its better”.  Well 1. I didn’t want to switch to AT&T, and I still dont pay for my cell service :D.  So UCF has wireless EVERYWHERE…. almost.  Beyond that the only thing that was really holding me back was the price ($299 for the 8GB).  Well I discovered the refurbished models that Apple has on thier website (baiscly $100 off).  So that was my resonaing, but beyond that it is awesome.

The first item of business was of course the 2.0 firmware upgrade ($10 for iPod users).  This gave me access the the app store, and let me tell you there is some cool shit.  VNC, AIM, last.fm, AOL Radio just to name a few.  I have to say this is one of the best products I have used in a while.  It has all the features of the iPhone (almost) without the cost and contract.

The two things the iPod Touch lacks are a camera, which I have a pretty small one so thats not a big deal, and bluetooth.  I would hope that in the update they would add bluetooth sync (which the iPhone doesnt have I dont think).  So, for anyone thinking about buying an iPhone but likes thier phone too much I really recomend the iPod Touch.

UPDATE: lifehacker has an article about it today too (http://lifehacker.com/399619/forget-the-iphone++the-ipod-touch-is-good-enough)

Transfering Domains

June 19th, 2008

So, transferring a domain from one registrant to another sucks.  4 phone calls, and a week and a half later.  I finally have this site over the on dreamhost!!! Welcome!

Twitter/BrightKite/NetVibe

May 28th, 2008

So, I have recently been using BrightKite and Twitter a lot.   I really like them.  In case you don’t know here is a short explanation with both:

  • BrightKite (bkite.com):  This is a location log.  You create an account and then when you go somewhere you “check-in”.  Then  you can see who is checked in near you as well as photos of this location.  Its kind of cool, this service also updates Twitter.  (Its in beta, so you need an invite, let me know if you want one).
  • Twitter (twitter.com): This is a versatile mini-blog utility.  Post are limited to 140 chars.  Updates can be made from iGoogle, Cell, Netvibes, and others. This is a cool think because you jot something small, and you can see what other people are thinking.
  • NetVibes (netvibes.com): This is a cool alternative to iGoogle. I enjoy it.

Kristin makes a fool of herself! (no big surprise)

April 13th, 2008
[22:37:39] <@Kristin> ahaha omg
[22:37:47] <@Kristin> We were drinking at Ale House

To finish the story she started. We went to Ale House for dinner / drinking tonight. Kristin (like normal) decided to start playing with the extra condiments, and condiment cups we had on the table. Long story short, she flung a mixture of sour cream and blue cheese all over herself, her pants, the floor and both of our feet. Now we have something to replace “Metter Gear Sorrid” with. :-)

Memphis Day 2

March 14th, 2008

So yesterday was the day of upsets for Conference USA.  The 2,3, and 4 seeds are out, the 6,7,8 seeds are in.  UCF fell to Southern Miss in a devastating loss due not only in part due to injuries, but also to horrendous officiating on the part of the CUSA refs.  Apparently a nudge for us is a foul, but they can rip our fucking shirts off.

Saw Larry Eustachy at “The Flying saucer afterwards. So when we saw him at the bar, we ordered a beer and told the waitress to give it to him and say “Here’s a Natty Light courtesy of the Rowdy Knights.” And he was like, that’s not even funny. I also get some shots of some RKs where he happens to be in background smoking a cigar and drinkin’ a beer. Before we left I told him that tomorrows game was “going to to be fun… for us” after tonight’s loss.  He then proceeded to tell me that he was O’Leary’s buddy, and that I should say hello for him.  Uhhh.. bull shit?

The Memphis game was before ours, as normal they put up an outstanding performance.  And as long as they beat USM into the ground tomorrow I will be happy.

Went to Graceland today as well.  What a tourist trap that was.  I think thats all I can say, a tacky tourist trap for a dead guy.  Maybe its cause I wasn’t alive while Elvis was but people were like making a huge deal out if it.  An old rocker who lived over-extravagantly and died while taking a shit because of using too many drugs.

No plans tomorrow except to get some food and watch USM get their asses kicked.

Memphis Day 1

March 13th, 2008

So on the trip up at about 12 am EST someone lit up a joint in the bus…. like no one would smell it. Right need less to say the bus driver was not happy.  About an hour later  we stopped in Tallahassee to switch drivers and someone stole a pillow from a hotel….  once we git out of florida everything was cool.

The hotel is on Main St along the Mississippi river.  Also right along the trolly tracks.  Went down to Beale St. then went and watched the Rice USM game.  Such a boring game. But we went to Rondevouz, so much better than Corky’s.

 Tomorrow is Graceland.

Common Courtesy

February 27th, 2008

Does common courtesy not even exist anymore?  I was in the union today and I got some lunch from BK.  When I got in line, about 5 tables where available so I didn’t think I would have any problem once I got my food.

After ordering and receiving my foot I turned around to find that no tables where available, while walking around I found that any tables were being taken by one person who wasn’t eating.  Why do you need to be in the food court to work on your laptop.  WTF?  I will admit I have done that before, but never when all tables are full.  If you see someone trying to find a table and you are all alone at a table not eating wouldn’t it be appropriate to give up your table for someone who would use it correctly?

Also, if you only have 4 people at your table, you don’t need two tables.  I saw A group of 4, at two tables (room for 8 ) when they would have fit perfectly fine at a table built for, oh my god, 4 people.  Pay attention and don’t be an ass hole.

So I like this guys videos. I dont know why I have never watched this one, but I thought everyone should see it.

My Favorite line:

I suppose that atheism is a religion in the same way that creationism is a science, or Islam is a religion of peace… when language no longer means anything.

Political Commercials

January 28th, 2008

Now is the season for political commercials. I personally hate them, does anyone really base their vote on this crap? Lord help us if they do.

All I have to say is SHUT THE FUCK UP!!! I will watch a debate, I will read your press releases, but unless you can say it in front of your competitors, don’t say it at all. I think political advertisements should be limited to <25% of all commercials. I’m just glad that this election season I have a DVR!

Room Assignments

January 11th, 2008

So, school started this week, its going to be a long semester. (I’m taking 4 classes, ouch). Here is the problem that came to my attention this week: There is a brand new building where all of your professors offices are, Engineering 3 (I refuse to call it the Harris building). The thing is, of my 4 classes 2 are in the old Engineering 1 building. Now your probably thinking “Ok, so, they ran out of room for classes in the new building”. But no, while my classes are going on, classes from the college of nursing are being held in the new rooms in ENG III!!! Why couldn’t they put the nurses in the old moldy building and put us in the new building which would be more convenient not only for my professors, but for me as well. Also, aren’t the nursing offices in HPA? wouldn’t ENG I be closer? Whatever I just think its crap, our department payed for the building, why can’t be get first dibs?!
